Affordable Red Wine Recommendations and a Simple Italian Salad

I'll admit it.  I love wine.  Red wine, white wine, sparkling wine, any wine.  During the summer, when it's warm, I look forward to a nice cold, crisp glass of Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc, and in the winter I really appreciate a rich, velvety red.

Lately, I have been enjoying Red Blends.  I love how smooth and fruity they tend to be.  I have found three that are not only delicious but affordable as well.  All three of these wines are in the $8-12 price range.

Cocobon - This is my go-to wine.  I find it at my local Trader Joe's, but I've also spotted it at Total Wine.  Like the name implies, there are some chocolate notes in this wine that make it scrumptious and one I buy on repeat.

Apothic Crush - This wine also has a subtle chocolate flavor, and, according to the Apothic website, notes of caramel and raspberries.  I have found this wine at my local grocery store, as well as Target and Total Wine.

Primal Roots Red Blend - I just picked this wine up from Target for the first time before the holidays, and took it to several dinner parties.  It is similar to Cocobon and Apothic Crush, with the silky flavors of mocha, caramel, and berries.

These three wines are great selections for serving at or taking to a dinner party.  I have shared these wines with many friends, and they all end up loving them too.

In addition to serving or bringing one of these bottles of wine to a party, my quick go-to recipe is this simple and easy Italian Pine Nut Salad.  The recipe originated from a "Friends" TV  show cookbook.  Did you watch Friends back in the day?  I loved it, and can honestly say it's one of my all-time favorite shows.

Living Young and Healthy founder, Leigh, introduced me to this salad recipe.  She served it at her daughter's birthday party, and when I asked for the recipe, she promptly showed me the "Friends" Cookbook.  Ironically, I owned the cookbook too, but had never tried that recipe!

From that day on, I have kept this salad in my repertoire of quick and easy things to make for a dinner party.  The recipe can be found on Leigh's personal blog, HinesSightBlog.

I love pine nuts, but they can be hard to find sometimes.  The last time I made this salad, I substituted slivered almonds for the pine nuts, and it was equally delicious!

Looking for an elegant and easy dessert for a dinner party?  This one is a hit every time I make it!

Buon appetito!
