An Elegant and Easy Dessert Trifle for Parties

Okay, I'll admit it.  This is hardly a "healthy" recipe.  In fact, some may not even call it a recipe at all.  It's more of an "assembly."  It is a great dessert to take to a dinner party, and the end result is so pretty and delicious that your party hosts and guests won't believe you made it yourself!

Easy and elegant trifle dessert to take to parties.

This dessert actually came from my mother-in-law.  Back in 2003, when my husband and I were planning our wedding, my mother, mother-in-law, and bridesmaids threw me an amazing bridal shower.  This was before Pinterest and food bloggers, so we had to rely on cookbooks and recipes that were passed amongst family members and friends.  For my shower, my bridesmaids came up with a meaningful and great idea:  they included blank recipe cards in the invitations that were sent, and guests were asked to fill out the card with a favorite recipe for me to keep.  As the guests arrived at my shower, they placed the recipe card into a cute recipe box that was presented to me.  I still have it today and it is a wonderful memory of that special day.

Back then, my mother-in-law was pretty famous in her social circles for this beautiful chocolate trifle that she would make and take to or serve at parties.  What makes the dessert stunning is the beautiful trifle bowl that it is assembled in.  So for my shower, she bought me a trifle bowl and gave me the recipe card with that recipe on it.  I have made this dessert so many times throughout the years, and I promise you that every time I bring it to a get-together, people absolutely love it.

I guarantee that for minimum effort, this elegant dessert will wow everyone you serve it to!

Easy and Elegant Chocolate Trifle with pound cake. Great for parties.

Chocolate Trifle

You will need:

Trifle Bowl
1 frozen (and defrosted) or fresh pound cake, diced into 1-inch cubes
1 - 5.9 oz. box of chocolate pudding, prepared according to directions on the package
1 container of whipped topping (such as Cool Whip)
3 tablespoons of toffee bits (such as Heath Bits O' Brickle Toffee bits)
optional: one shot glass of coffee liquor (such as Kahlua)

This dessert is assembled in 3 layers.  For the first layer, place 1/3 of the pound cake cubes into the bottom of the trifle bowl.  At this point, if you would like to add the coffee liquor, sprinkle 1/3 of the shot glass on top of the pound cake.  Then, smooth 1/3 of the chocolate pudding on top of the cake.  Add 1/3 of the whipped topping on top of the pudding, and smooth it out.  Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the toffee bits on top of the whipped topping.  Repeat two more times.
