Part of living a healthy lifestyle includes making healthy meals on a daily
basis for my family. I have a repertoire of recipes that we love and
enjoy, but it can be boring to eat the same dinner on a repeat basis, so I am
always looking for new ideas that are quick and easy to prepare, are healthy
and that my family will enjoy.
I recently had the opportunity to
try out a meal kit delivery company called
Home Chef,
which helped us sample some new meals and break out of our dinner rut!
Home Chef
offers busy families a convenient way to try out new meals that are quick and
easy to make. It takes the stress out of meal planning and
preparation.
It has 15 weekly menu options, which provides a lot of variety and choice.
The meals cost $9.95 per serving and arrive with the pre-portioned ingredients
that are needed to cook each meal. That means no measuring and no waste
when trying out new meals!
There were so many meal choices on the
Home Chef
website, it was hard to narrow it down. My kids and I do not eat red
meat or pork regularly, so that narrowed down some choices, but there
were still many to choose from. Most of the meal choices were
family-friendly and all were familiar, but with a twist. There were
low-calorie, heart-healthy and vegetarian options to choose from as well, so
eating healthy is also easy with
Home Chef.
I chose two meals from the
Home Chef website
to try out that I felt my family would enjoy: French Onion Shrimp and Grits
and Mexican Street Corn Salad. Both meals were quick and easy to
prepare. Because the ingredients came pre-portioned, all I had to do was
chop, saute/bake and assemble. Each meal took less than 30 minutes
to make, and the clean up was minimal since the recipes encourage using the
same pans for multiple steps. I hate doing dishes, so win-win
for me!
The meals were a hit with my family. My children enjoy
shrimp but I've never made Shrimp and Grits, so I wanted to try something
new. By preparing it with the French onion cream sauce, this
classic dish was elevated to a new level. My husband, especially,
gobbled down his meal. He loved the flavors of the French onion cream
sauce.
The Mexican Street corn salad was equally tasty. My kids were
enthralled by the tortilla bowls that I made by following the
Home Chef instructions. I was excited to learn a new cooking technique.
Another win-win!
All in all,
Home Chef
provided an easy way to try some new meals, break up the boring dinner
routine, and make it simple and quick for me to prepare healthy and fresh
meals for my family on busy weeknights. The beauty of the service is
that you can pause or skip a week. There are no binding contracts, which
makes it easy to try it out.
